Super Hemp: Hempitecture is on the move!

Dear friends of Christensen Global,

My father, Doug Christensen, was a builder who from the start of his career in the 1950s was dedicated to protecting our environment. He incorporated passive solar building techniques in his projects as well as solar PV and solar thermal in his personal residences and in client projects as much as they would let him. He was a major proponent of hemp, using some of the earliest hemp building materials and would be so pleased to see this incredible plant’s potential starting to be realized. For him, for our planet, and for our farmers, I am proud to be part of helping Hempitecture to grow, for their success is to all of our benefit.

All my best,

Aimée Christensen, Founder & CEO

As Christensen Global continues our work to shape the world we need, restoring nature, building economic opportunity and equity for our health, security and prosperity, we are excited to share that today our client, Hempitecture, is announcing several major milestones:

Hempitecture is a Public-Benefit Corporation leveraging the agricultural powerhouse of industrial hemp to produce better building materials for our health, economies and the environment. Industrial hemp is a miraculous crop generating valuable food and fiber while sequestering carbon and building healthy soil. Hemp produces nutritious protein and fats from the seeds (which are tasty on their own!) and its fiber makes ropes as good or better than any out there including nylon.

Hempitecture’s inaugural product, HempWool, is a biobased, non-toxic insulation product that sequesters carbon and advances energy efficiency, creating a market for industrial hemp, a “growing” opportunity for farmers worldwide. Recognizing Hempitecture’s innovation leadership, the Idaho Department of Commerce has awarded Hempitecture and the University of Idaho a GEM grant to progress research and development.

Now that Idaho’s Governor, Brad Little, signed into law Idaho HB 126 legalizing the production of industrial hemp, all 50 states are welcoming this whole new industry open to businesses, farmers, and economic growth, including in our home state of Idaho, also home to Hempitecture!

HEMP BUILDING MATERIAL MANUFACTURER TO EXPAND TO THE MAGIC VALLEY

Hempitecture Inc. will manufacture sustainable hemp-based insulation potentially replacing fiberglass insulation and other conventional building materials.

JEROME, ID – June 1, 2021 – Hempitecture Inc., a Sun Valley, Idaho-based company that manufactures and distributes sustainable building materials, will be expanding its operations to bring a new, 20,000 sq. ft. facility to Southern Idaho. Hempitecture’s facility in the Magic Valley is expected to be operational by May of 2022, bringing both investment and high-skilled jobs to Southern Idaho.

The proposed facility will manufacture HempWool®, a sustainable, high-performing fiber insulation for residential and commercial construction projects. The plant-based insulation product captures CO2, helping build healthier and more sustainable homes. Hempitecture, holding the US patent for HempWool insulation, will be utilizing proprietary textile technology to manufacture HempWool insulation.

Learn from Founder & CEO Matthew Mead about the health and sustainability of this product.

“We’re thrilled to be locating our first manufacturing facility in Southern Idaho, an agriculturally focused region,” said Hempitecture Founder & CEO Matthew Mead. “The Magic Valley strategically situated along the I-84 corridor, allows us to easily reach our target markets across the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, and West Coast. We're thankful for the support of the community in making this project possible, and we look forward to being an asset to the region for many years to come.”

As recipients of the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) grants, the University of Idaho and Hempitecture partnership was awarded a $206,624 grant to further research hemp building materials. “Hempitecture’s expansion brings high paying jobs, opportunity and innovation to the Magic Valley,” Idaho Department of Commerce Director Tom Kealey said. “This isn’t just a win for Southern Idaho, but also for the state. This project is a testament to the innovation we strive for in Idaho.”
