Strategic Communications Director

Pamela Wellner is a Communications Strategist at Christensen Global, guiding communications, campaign development, and advice for the Sun Valley Forum and our clients. As Chief Strategist of Amplify Eco, Pamela advises communications and campaigns for organizations focused on climate change, sustainability, and human rights. Pamela possesses a versatile skill set honed over years of experience, enabling her to craft and implement integrated communications and marketing programs. Pamela has been a driving force in inspiring positive change within mission-driven organizations for over 30 years. Her experience includes directing cutting-edge sustainability and human rights campaigns for organizations such as Health Care Without Harm, ClimateWorks, Solar Aquagrid, Center for Sustainable Energy, Greenpeace, Fauna and Flora International, and the Rainforest Action Network. She is the board chair of Charge Across Town, whose mission is to increase equitable access to clean transportation.

Pamela's a producer focused on sustainability content at Transit Pictures. At ClimateWorks, she co-produced videos for the Powering Past Coal Alliance and Bloomberg Philanthropies, using storytelling to address the barriers and benefits of ending coal power. The videos were screened at the Global Climate Action Summit, COP24, and BloombergNEF NY Summit.

At the Center for Sustainable Energy, she was a senior marketing manager for Energy Upgrade California, a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign aimed at increasing energy efficiency across California, and for the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project. At the California Public Utilities Commission, she orchestrated developing a statewide brand and communications plan, directing strategies to influence consumer behavior in the energy efficiency sector. She helped create the Behavior Energy and Climate Change Conference to promote behavior change best practices to advance sustainability. 

For half her career, Pamela focused on protecting old-growth forests and communities from rapacious logging practices and advancing corporate sustainability. She campaigned for sustainable forestry for products ranging from musical instruments and plywood for Hollywood movie sets to tissue paper. Pamela helped found the Forest Stewardship Council. She also directed a campaign on oil company divestment from junta-controlled Burma and investigated human rights abuses and forest destruction connected to TotalEnergies and Unocal’s natural gas pipeline.

An ocean enthusiast, she navigates life's currents through snorkeling, sailing, swimming, outrigger canoeing, paddleboarding, and exploration. Pamela has an MPA from New York University and a BA in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic.
